CDA reports growth in community land trust homes; BR&E flags hiring and training gaps

CDA staff told the board the agency’s last strategic plan is being updated and reported that 24 community land trust homes are now occupied, exceeding a prior goal. Two recent resales closed, bids are being advertised for seven more homes, and additional grant funding will allow the CDA to buy and resell more properties across Scott County.
Joe (CDA/BR&E updates) said the agency continues to manage local affordable housing aid and partner with county and regional entities; he described programs that defer loans and help developers score competitive points for state funding.
On workforce issues, BR&E staff summarized business visits that found hiring has ‘‘become next to impossible’’ for some employers. Staff said they are exploring local culinary training opportunities because the nearest training option was at Saint Paul College and that the EDA may help match training and employer needs.
The board did not vote on policy changes but requested continued coordination between CDA, BR&E and city staff to align housing and workforce programs with available grant opportunities.
