Labette County OKs $30,000 consulting deal for KDOT road work; approves compactor and road overlay

The Labette County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 8 authorized a $30,000 agreement with GFT Infrastructure, Inc., of Wichita to provide professional consulting services on a Kansas Department of Transportation project on 24,000 Road from Gray Road to 24,500 Road.
Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the chairman’s signature on the contract; Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The agreement was described in the meeting minutes as a consulting services contract to support the KDOT project; no additional contract details were recorded in the minutes.
In related public-works actions, the board approved several purchases and project steps. Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2017 CAT CB10-01 compactor for $63,000, payable from the county’s Special Machinery Fund; the motion was made by Commissioner Terry Weidert, seconded by Tom Barrett and approved unanimously. The board also declared a 1983 Dyna Pak Vibrating Drum (Serial #166D25) surplus and authorized its sale on Purple Wave.
The board approved a road overlay project on Saline Road, covering the section from 16,500 Road north to the Great Plains gate 7. The project instructions recorded in the minutes include removing concrete where an old guard shack stood inside the plant, patching and sealing pavement inside the plant, patching throughout the plant, adding signage, removing brush, and removing the barricade outside gate 7. The board also approved placing a No Truck sign on Saline Road and 16,500 Road. The motion to proceed with the overlay and associated site work passed unanimously after a motion by Commissioner Terry Weidert and second by Tom Barrett.
Additionally, the board authorized procurement of four Firestone Highway tires for the county courthouse Impala at a total cost of $567.92.
The minutes record several brief executive sessions for attorney consultation during the meeting but do not connect those sessions to the public-works items described above. The board adjourned at 11:39 a.m. and scheduled its next regular meeting for 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2025.
