Labette County commissioners approve payroll, accounts payable, neighborhood plan and sign opioid settlement authorization

The Labette County Board of Commissioners approved several financial and administrative items during its Aug. 29, 2025 meeting in Parsons, including payroll and settlement paperwork.
The board voted to approve payroll check numbers 1820 to 1821 for $4,769.37 and Direct Deposit numbers 827705 through 827129 for $398,139.16, a combined payroll total of $402,908.53. The motion was made by Chairman Vincent B. Schibi and seconded by Commissioner Terry Weidert; the vote recorded Tom Barrett (Yes), Terry Weidert (Yes), Vincent B. Schibi (Yes).
The board also approved accounts payable in the amount of $480,245.12; the motion was recorded as approving accounts payable check numbers 383304 through 38347. The motion passed unanimously after a second by Commissioner Tom Barrett. (The transcript’s check-number range appears to contain a typographical error and is noted in clarifying details.)
Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the chairman’s signature on a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan application for Chase Winters; Tom Barrett seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also approved spending $2,500 to install Christmas lights on the north and east sides of the Judicial Center in Parsons.
Late in the meeting the board moved into an executive session for consultation with county counsel; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson was recorded as present for that closed session. The board then approved a motion to allow the chairman to sign a National Opioid Settlement document via DocuSign; Commissioner Terry Weidert moved, Tom Barrett seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 11:34 a.m.; the next regular session is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
