Labette County commissioners approve budget corrections, authorize parcel search agreement and schedule executive session on property

The Labette County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 18, 2025, voted unanimously to approve several routine measures including minute approval, multiple budget corrections and authorization of an appraiser parcel-search agreement, and they approved entering an executive session to discuss potential real-property acquisition.
All three commissioners—Chairman Vincent B. Schibi, Commissioner Tom Barrett and Commissioner Terry Weidert—voted 3-0 on motions that adjusted county budgets and authorized agreements. Commissioner Terry Weidert moved the first procedural actions, and Tom Barrett and Vincent B. Schibi seconded and supported motions throughout the meeting.
The board approved the minutes of the Aug. 11 meeting and voted to stop a $500 reimbursement transfer for code enforcement from Business Development to the Health Department effective Jan. 1, 2026; the motion to stop the transfer was made by Commissioner Terry Weidert and passed unanimously. The board also approved signatures for the 2025 primary election abstract.
On county finances, commissioners approved a $5,000 correction to fund 001-010-3080 to fix the current budget and moved $16,000 from the Labette County Fair budget into County General Capital Outlay fund 001-054-3800 to correct an excess entry. Commissioners also approved the Annual Budget Funds Summary for District Court, setting proposed 2026 expenditures at $300,250. Each of those motions passed 3-0.
Commissioners authorized the chairman to sign an Appraiser’s Parcel Search Agreement with Community National Bank & Trust after a $225 fee was paid. "Total cost would be $18,594.00 for equipment and subscriptions," Chairman Vincent B. Schibi said when presenting a separate quote from Higher Calling to livestream commission meetings; the board took no action on the livestreaming proposal.
The board voted to go into an executive session for "preliminary discussions about the acquisition of real property to protect the public interest in obtaining the property at a fair price." The motion, made by Commissioner Terry Weidert and seconded by Tom Barrett, passed unanimously; County Counselor Brian K. Johnson was present for 15 minutes during the session and the body reconvened at 10:39 a.m.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 11:03 a.m. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for 9:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.
