Labette County commissioners approve promotion and pay adjustment for county legal staff, decline other transfers

The Labette County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 29, 2025 approved a promotion for Tisha Lemmons and a salary-adjusted promotion for Alan Brereton while a proposed transfer for Destiny Johnson failed for lack of a second. All recorded approvals were unanimous.
Chairman Vincent B. Schibi and two fellow commissioners met Aug. 29, 2025 in Parsons and approved several personnel actions affecting the county attorney’s office and court support staff.
Commissioner Terry Weidert moved to authorize the chairman’s signature on a Neighborhood Revitalization Plan application earlier in the meeting, and later in the agenda personnel items followed. Chairman Vincent B. Schibi first proposed a transfer for Destiny Johnson from Legal Assistant II to Legal Assistant III (Range 18B to 20B); that motion failed for lack of a second and no formal vote was called.
The board then considered advancement for Tisha Lemmons. Chairman Vincent B. Schibi initially proposed moving Lemmons from Legal Assistant III to Chief Legal Assistant/Victim Witness Advocate at Range 20E to 23E; that initial proposal likewise failed for lack of a second. Schibi later revised the request to move Lemmons from Range 20E to 21E. Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded the revised motion, and the board approved it unanimously: Tom Barrett (Yes), Terry Weidert (Yes), Vincent B. Schibi (Yes).
The board also addressed a proposed promotion for Alan Brereton from Deputy County Attorney to Chief Deputy County Attorney. A version of the motion that would have increased Brereton’s salary from $84,660.00 to $100,000.00 failed for lack of a second. Chairman Schibi then proposed an adjusted salary of $85,000.00 annually; Commissioner Tom Barrett seconded and the motion passed unanimously: Tom Barrett (Yes), Terry Weidert (Yes), Vincent B. Schibi (Yes).
All personnel motions were handled during the public business portion of the Aug. 29 meeting. The board held two separate executive sessions during the meeting for non-elected personnel and for consultation with the county attorney; the minutes record that Melody Kikkert and Michelle Rodgers attended the non-elected personnel session and that County Counselor Brian K. Johnson attended the attorney consultation session.
The board adjourned at 11:34 a.m. and is scheduled to meet next at 9:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
