White Pine recreation and public-works updates: Splash Pad open, water loss down 22%

Adam Wilson reported the Splash Pad is open and well used, the football field is scheduled to open July 1 with new Bermudagrass established, and a recent baseball tournament and growing demand from the Redstitch group have increased field rentals. Pinefest currently has 76 vendors signed up and Bingo will resume in August.
Public Works Director Mr. Stewart told the council the Environmental Protection Agency approved the town’s risk assessment report. He said four employees completed tutoring and achieved a 100% pass rate for licensing, and reported a 22% decrease in water loss for the month. Mayor Warren added that three loads of large-item pickup were taken to the landfill, totaling about nine tons at an approximate cost of $540.
Under new business, Whitney Woods asked whether no-right-turn-on-red signs at Main Street and Roy Messer could be removed; after discussion Mayor Warren said the town has not taken ownership of the traffic lights and urged residents to obey existing traffic controls. The council discussed a proposal from Blue Line Solutions to install a camera at the school, and Mayor Warren said the town would not act on the proposal at this meeting.
An announcement: Town historian Doc Noonkesser and Dale Snapp will present on White Pine’s early years on June 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
What happens next: The traffic-sign ownership question will be placed on a future work-session agenda; planning and operations follow-up is required for the public-works items noted.
