Olentangy board advances design work for technology facility, accepts consent slate and authorizes developer path at Arrowhead

At the July 9 meeting the Olentangy Local Board of Education heard a business and facilities update and approved routine consent items, while authorizing design work toward a new technology services facility and a developer‑funded walkway.
Mr. Gordon, the board’s business and facilities presenter, reported that the district has been negotiating GMPs for the high school project and is continuing to solicit bids; he said Robertson Construction is working to generate subcontractor interest and that mechanical, electrical and plumbing bids were coming due. Gordon told the board the district will recommend Elford as the design‑builder for a technology services office and warehouse project and said the project funding would use interest proceeds from the 2020 bond sale. “We don’t owe any money back to the IRS for that, the interest that we gained on those and we can put it to use for what is deemed best for the district,” he said.
Gordon also described a license agreement with Pulte Homes of Ohio for a developer‑funded pathway at Arrowhead Elementary; the developer will pay for the path, which the district may designate as a non‑transport zone to reduce busing costs if it falls inside the walking distance threshold. On insurance, Gordon recommended continuing with Ohio School Plan coverage and said premiums had risen slightly.
The superintendent asked the board to approve his recommended consent items and the business consent slate; the board approved the June 24 minutes and a single slate of consent action items A through G (which included human resources items, an acknowledgment of a GMP amendment and authorization for disposal/auction of district items under $500). The board then voted to convene to executive session under Revised Code 121.22(G)(1) to discuss the employment or compensation of a public employee; the president stated no substantive action would be taken upon return. The board returned from executive session at about 8:23 p.m. and adjourned.
No final construction contract was approved at this meeting; the board advanced design work and will return with GMPs and construction votes in future meetings.
