Town announces Miss Lawrence will start Sept. 29; outreach and events noted

Moderator introduced Miss Lawrence, summarizing her background in trails and green-ways planning, nonprofit leadership and community development in Botetourt County. The Moderator said Miss Lawrence has served on both elected and appointed sides of local government, including as a planning commissioner, town council member and mayor of Ashland, and noted she has two adult children and four grandchildren with another due in February.
"Miss Lawrence brings quite an extensive experience to the town," the Moderator said and confirmed her start date will be Sept. 29. The Moderator also reminded listeners of a community event on the 25th at the Ice House Brewery (noting a time discrepancy: 8 a.m. vs. 8:30 a.m.) and said Economic Development Director Charlotte Cole will present at that event.
The Moderator said an emergency-preparedness plan has been drafted and that the town will coordinate with the county plan, which is expected to be completed by the end of the month; the Moderator said staff will return with hurricane-preparedness updates in October.
