Martin County expands single-family rehab program after contractor secures additional funds

The Martin County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Budget Amendment #35 April 11, increasing the 2015 Single Family Rehab Program budget to $504,903 after contractor McDavid Associates obtained additional funding for six more residents.
Finance Director Cindy Ange said the county originally budgeted $170,000 for the program in May 2015. The contractor was able to access extra funds and enroll six additional residents on a first-come, first-served basis, raising the total program budget by $334,903. Amendment #35 increases the SSH CDBG fund to reflect $70,602 for administration and $264,301 for rehabilitation costs.
Why it matters: The change expands housing rehabilitation assistance available to qualifying Martin County residents under the Community Development Block Grant program and allows the county to serve residents who would otherwise be ineligible due to funding caps.
What’s next: County staff will administer the additional funds through McDavid Associates; the board adopted the amendment unanimously with a motion by Vice Chairman Tommy Bowen and a second by Commissioner Dempsey Bond Jr.
