Library funding slightly up, trail progress and fire‑gear grant reported to Cannon Falls council

City staff and board representatives gave multiple brief reports at the July 7 Cannon Falls City Council meeting, covering library funding, trail work, and recent grant awards to the fire department.
Nicole, representing the library, said Goodhue County opted for flat funding in 2027 while resuming contractual agreements in 2028; because Cannon Falls’ share of rural resident circulation is higher, the library expects about a $1,700 increase in county funding next year. She also announced library events, including a dog‑agility event at Eastside Park and an information session on July 16 with Lutheran Social Services about youth chemical dependency and homelessness.
Council members reported that the Drake Power trail board is finishing work near mile 14 and will install guardrails at steeper sections for safety. Separately, Laura (an EDA representative) said she and a colleague are finalizing a deed‑redevelopment grant application due at month’s end and that 3–4 lots in Hardwood Estates are expected to close this Friday.
Laura also reported the fire department was awarded a state fire‑marshal grant and that about $13,000 in equipment (an extractor and a dryer to decontaminate gear) was delivered and will be installed for reimbursement.
No council actions were required during these reports; staff and representatives will continue to advance grant paperwork and event planning.
