Board spotlights student and staff achievements at Feb. 27 meeting

At its Feb. 27 meeting, the Lexington County School District Two board recognized several student and staff achievements, highlighting Career and Technical Education completers and arts and academic honors.
Innovation Center staff introduced multiple students who have completed programs and earned industry certifications (OSHA 10, AWS, CPR, AED, FEMA and state fire certifications among others). Students from Airport High and BC described plans for college, technical training and careers in nursing, engineering and firefighting. “The programs I chose … have led me to multiple options,” student Elizabeth Pittman said.
Airport High orchestra director Colin Richardson announced that Avery McCree earned a spot in the All‑State Orchestra; Avery described the competitive experience and thanked instructors. Pine Ridge Middle School coaches Jana Lockler and Carol Jones introduced their academic challenge team, which will compete at the state level on March 7.
Board members also congratulated Airport High principal Mister Shillett on being named by the South Carolina Council for Exceptional Children as principal of the year; teacher Shauna Gardner spoke to his commitment to inclusion.
