Operations update: radios complete, renovations progressing; trustees press on Wi‑Fi costs

Operations Director Mister Warren told the board on Feb. 27 that new radios are now functional in all schools, HVAC control upgrades and fire-alarm replacement work are under way, and the Brooklyn Casey dance-room renovation was trending toward substantial completion at month’s end.
Warren said the district has issued RFPs for activity-bus Wi‑Fi and other technology upgrades (access points, network switches, cameras and door access). A trustee asked about estimated Wi‑Fi costs; Warren quoted a rough ballpark of $15,000–$20,000 per bus but said the RFP will inform final pricing.
One trustee suggested evaluating leased hotspot solutions that could be cheaper and more flexible, warning that expensive in‑bus installs risk obsolescence as cellular technology changes. Warren said staff will evaluate different approaches during the RFP process and are not committing to a purchase without further review.
Trustees also asked about a planned scoreboard replacement for Brooklyn Casey; staff explained prior CPIF budget timing and that supplemental funding made the current replacement possible, and said installation was planned for March 6 pending final checks.
