Tecumseh staff report progress on streets, utilities, downtown planning and pool staffing

City staff updated the Tecumseh City Council on multiple operational items at the March 3, 2025 meeting.
City Clerk Janelle Moran reported the fiscal-year audit for the year ending Sept. 30, 2024 is complete and has been filed with the state. Public works staff (Doug Goracke) said the street on Shawnee is staked and earth-moving will begin once frost leaves; poles for new lighting on Arrowhead Drive have been ordered but have long lead times. A sidewalk on Lincoln was noted on the agenda for future consideration.
On economic development, Goracke said the final downtown planning study is being finalized and a community meeting is scheduled for March 19 at 5:30 p.m.; a downtown blight study is complete and will require approval by the Community Development Agency and the council. He also reported one remaining easement for NDOT DTR is expected to be finalized this week.
Utility updates included a pending final award for a Grid Grant, scheduling for contractor Sterrup to construct an addition, servicing of equipment for sale, and a temporary replacement of a valve actuator at Town Towers with a unit taken from Webster Street pending ordering a new one.
Parks Director Maddie Moran reported recent Kids Club and basketball programming, collaboration with the Chamber on an April 19 Easter Egg Hunt, and pool staffing: 19 lifeguard applicants, 14 slide applicants, and 9 concession applicants. Staff plan lifeguard training, Red Cross certification logistics and swim lessons June 16-27; the Parks Office will prepare sign-up sheets and publicity materials.
