Bedminster readies community garden and farmers market as spring projects advance

Bedminster Township officials on April 20 told the township committee that the long‑planned community garden is nearly ready and the farmers market will return in late May.
Mayor Jacobs said about 60 garden plots have been claimed and that the official opening is scheduled for May 1. He urged staff to prepare a press release and suggested inviting county commissioners for a ribbon‑cutting or ceremonial event. “When we have that opening, we really should do a press release,” the mayor said.
Committeewoman Fernandez reported that the Department of Public Works will be fully staffed after tonight’s meeting and summarized DPW tasks preparing community spaces: lining soccer and lacrosse fields, grading dirt roads, adding stone and loading garden boxes. She thanked staff and volunteers and noted strong public interest following a recent JVH presentation and docent training that drew new volunteers. “That’s amazing. Good luck with the farmer’s market,” Fernandez said.
The committee discussed logistics for the Bedminster Farmers Market, including possible shifts to entrance points and parking to accommodate increased activity at River Road Park. Officials said the farmers market permit for Donlon Brew Works LLC covers May 23 through Dec. 5 and that the market will coordinate with the new community garden and JVH events to reduce conflicts and improve safety.
