Commission rescinds older EDC resolutions, appoints two county officials to transitional economic board

Members of the commission moved to rescind older joint economic‑development resolutions (Resolution dated 8/19/2002 and 12/19/2012) so the county can form a transitional economic board while it and the city develop a new permanent structure. County legal counsel described the proposed transitional board as composed of the county commission chair, the city mayor and the chamber president to provide immediate oversight during the transition.
The commission also moved to temporarily appoint Finance Director Tammy Robinson and Register of Deeds Jackie Risinger to fill two county vacancies on the EDC board; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners said the appointments are temporary and intended to provide financial oversight as county and city staff finalize a replacement structure.
Commissioners discussed concerns about oversight, financial reporting and travel spending on the existing economic‑development board, and directed staff to proceed with rescission and to work with city legal counsel on a transitional framework to take effect before the end of the year.
