Colfax County deputies report staffing issues; Cimarron EMS wins $200,000 ambulance grant

CIMARRON, N.M. — Public safety reports at the Oct. 9 Cimarron meeting covered staffing, system updates and a major grant award for emergency medical services.
Deputy John Rodarte of the Colfax County Sheriff's Office said the Cimarron office phones are being transferred to the Raton office and the TRAX ticket system has been updated and will be active soon. He said the sheriff's office is short-staffed, is following a submitted schedule for coverage, has a patrol plan for local schools and is recruiting additional officers.
Fire Chief Cristobal Coca reported five calls in the previous month — two vehicle accidents, two public assists and a commercial response — and said the department will have an ISO inspection on Oct. 17; the department currently holds an ISO rating of 4 and hopes to improve to a 3.
Louise Johnson reported that Cimarron EMS is very busy and confirmed the department received a $200,000 grant for a new ambulance; staff have begun developing specifications and gathering pricing.
