Cimarron council approves MAP funding match, contracts and EMS credit-card payments

The Village of Cimarron Council on Nov. 13 unanimously approved several routine financial and contract items, including an $86,863 local match to secure $560,589 in NMDOT MAP funding for a bridge replacement project and a credit-card payment agreement for Cimarron EMS.
Why it matters: The local match unlocks state funding for the bridge project, and an electronic payments option for ambulance bills could increase collection of fees for EMS services.
Council approved the check report and deposit register covering Oct. 5 through Nov. 8, 2024, and also authorized payment of a $404.13 bill to the New Mexico Local Government Law Firm. Mayor Pro Tem Valorie Garcia moved to approve the check report; Councilor Colin Tawney seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
Dave Werhane presented a proposal for a credit-card payment program for ambulance billing, saying “they could receive more payments which would increase revenues if there were an electronic option.” Following that presentation Mayor Pro Tem Valorie Garcia moved to approve a credit-card agreement for electronic payments for Cimarron EMS; Councilor Colin Tawney seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
On infrastructure matters, the council approved an on-call contract with Stantec Engineering for the bridge replacement project after a motion by Councilor Ernie LeDoux and second by Mayor Pro Tem Garcia. To leverage state MAP funding, Councilor Ernie LeDoux moved to approve a local match of $86,863 to match $560,589 from the New Mexico Department of Transportation; Councilor Miriah LeDoux seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
The council also approved a task order with Dennis Engineering for Phase II of the wastewater plant and passed Resolution 2024-026 granting an extension of time for the TPF project. Council approved a memorandum of understanding among Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the New Mexico State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Cimarron Fire Department, also by a 4-0 vote.
The meeting record shows unanimous votes (4-0) on all motions taken at the Nov. 13 meeting. The council adjourned at 7:03 p.m.
What’s next: The council noted FY26 capital outlay requests will follow ICIP priorities and invited citizens to submit items for the next agenda.
