Cimarron council approves drone mapping, plans cemetery clean-up and railing

CIMARRON, N.M. — The Village of Cimarron governing body voted unanimously Oct. 9 to pay $323.70 to have the town's cemetery mapped by drone to create an aerial record of plots and graves.
Administrator Shawn Jeffrey said Utility Clerk Cynthia Granado requested drone footage to help locate plots from an aerial perspective; Tim Freeman, the village janitor and a certified drone operator, provided the $323.70 quote. Councilor Miriah LeDoux moved to approve the mapping and Mayor Pro Tem Valorie Garcia seconded; the motion passed 4-0.
Council members discussed a community clean-up this fall and Mayor Eloy Brazil said he wants a barrier railing installed along the roadway near the cemetery to keep motorists on the road; he plans to ask the high school shop class if students would help build the railing. Councilor Ernie LeDoux asked that the road be widened in places so concrete trucks could access the area and asked that delineators near culverts be moved to the outside edge.
The minutes also state the Cemetery Board purchased a ground-penetrating unit for $20,000 that is currently unused; councilors raised the need to train staff or volunteers to operate that equipment.
