Committee approves creation of public Anderson County property listing and website links

"I'd like to make a motion to have the Anderson County property listing be established and move forward with the links being developed and bring back to the next operation meeting," he said.
The mayor and the law director explained legal constraints for some properties, including parcels with FEMA deed restrictions that limit use and parcels acquired via delinquent tax processes that must be declared surplus before sale. The law director described the delinquent‑tax/resale process and advised that some properties retained for county purposes require commission permission and proper paperwork to maintain tax‑exempt status.
Commissioners discussed organizing the list into sections (county‑owned, school properties, convenience‑center, delinquent‑tax parcels), adding historical notes, and updating it regularly. Commissioner Yeager seconded the motion; the committee voted and the motion passed unanimously.
The committee directed staff to create a living document and website link so commissioners and citizens can access the list, and to return to the operations committee with the organized link and recommendations for properties that might be candidates for surplus or sale.
