Resident Paul Hitchens told commissioners he has contacted local units about bringing natural gas service to Clark Township but so far has received only a response from Moran Township. He asked the county to form a committee to pursue installation and to provide meeting space.
Commissioner Daryl Schroeder said townships in the western part of the county are not supportive and that the proposal may not affect them. Commissioner Austin Kimberling suggested a regional study to determine feasibility and to identify potential grant funding through regional partners such as the EUP Gas Commission. Schroeder proposed scheduling a first meeting in September in Garfield Township.
The board did not take a formal vote to form a committee during the Committee of the Whole; steps suggested included outreach to townships and a feasibility study to identify funding options.
