Ashland County’s Zoning Committee opened its meeting at 9:00 a.m., established a quorum and conducted several routine items including leadership elections and approval of minutes and the agenda.
Pat nominated Paul Wilharm for chair; Jim seconded and the committee elected Wilharm by voice vote. Pat then nominated Gary for vice chair; the committee carried the motion, though the transcript records inconsistent spellings during the vote. The committee approved the meeting agenda and moved to approve the Feb. 17 zoning-and-land committee minutes after a comment from Pat requesting a wording change to the fee schedule so the packet reflects a flat minimum charge of $20 rather than a per-hour phrasing. Pat said: "That per hour should come out." A staff member said they would check the ordinance and the GIS posting to confirm and correct the packet.
A presenter reviewed recent permit activity, reporting $3,075 in permit revenue in February, $7,500 in March and $12,007.65 in April, and noted 54 permits issued in the three-month period in 2025 versus 61 in 2026. Committee members asked for clearer packet labeling so the public does not feel barred from viewing information; staff agreed to adjust wording and packet layout in future releases.
The meeting closed after the property items were addressed and a motion to adjourn carried by voice vote.
