Owner obtains demolition permit for Arapahoe Court property after council-approved condemnation plan

City staff updated the Belle Isle City Council on April 7 that a demolition permit for a blighted property on Arapahoe Court has been issued to the property owner and that utilities have been disconnected.
The city had previously approved condemnation to remove the hazard if the owner failed to act. Staff said the contractor on the owner's behalf had submitted a corrected application, UES issued the permit that afternoon, and the owner indicated demolition would begin once the permit was received. Staff told the council they would follow up immediately with the owner and that, if the owner did not move promptly, the city would take over the demolition and place a lien on the property.
Council members confirmed that the power and water were turned off and that Duke Energy had provided a confirmation letter that was submitted with the permit application. Staff estimated that, if the owner mobilized within the next two days, demolition could be completed within 2-3 days; otherwise the city would proceed with condemnation and complete the work.
