Mayor DJ Bonham leads ribbon-cutting at Brigham City Bridge, credits state funding

Mayor DJ Bonham led a ribbon-cutting atop the new Brigham City Bridge, thanking state lawmakers and local officials who helped secure funding for what he called a "generational" infrastructure project.

"Welcome to the top of the brand new Brigham City Bridge," Bonham said, adding that "this will be serving our community for hundreds of years." He identified an initial legislative allocation of $31,000,000 provided about five years ago and said the state legislature approved an additional $5,000,000 this spring to help cover cost increases.

Bonham singled out Commissioner Tyler Vincent, Senator Scott Sandell and Director Ferry for their roles in advancing the project and also thanked state leaders including Senate President Stuart Adams and legislative speakers for helping identify and secure the funding mechanism. He said the size of the investment and the degree of legislative support were key to completing the bridge.

Outlining the ceremony, Bonham said his remarks would include formal acknowledgments, followed by a ribbon-cutting photo on the far side of the crowd and refreshments in Pioneer Park, arranged by Donna, his executive assistant. He also noted scheduling constraints in picking a date because state legislators are often traveling on interim business and trade missions during the summer.

The event focused on celebration and recognition rather than policy debate; no votes or formal council actions were recorded during the remarks. After the ribbon-cutting the group planned to walk down from the bridge toward the park for photographs and refreshments.
