The Fremont City Council on June 9 voted on several routine matters: it recommended a class K secondary liquor-license endorsement for Lakeshore Marina (1440 W Military Ave) and approved a change-of-location recommendation for Savage Restaurant Group LLC dba Side Piece Sushi (343 N Main). Both recommendations were forwarded to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission after unanimous council votes with no public comment.
Council also considered Item 13, the special-event permit and a $4,125 fee-waiver request for John C. Fremont Days (July 9–12). Parks and Recreation Director Nick Canton and event president Connie Gossel provided updates about park readiness and logistics; Canton said the park might have small unfinished items (trim and some sod) but staff expects the site to be usable and will work with the event to protect newly installed turf. "We might just put a mat down for now so we don't ruin the sod in those areas," Canton said.
The council unanimously approved the John C. Fremont Days permit and an additional fee waiver and applauded staff and volunteers preparing for the event.
Next steps: staff will continue coordinating park logistics with the event committee; the liquor recommendations will be transmitted to the state commission for final action.
