Perryville adopts ordinance allowing temporary reserved election parking near county clerk office

On second reading the Board adopted Ordinance No. 6828 Jan. 6, permitting the County Election Authority to designate up to six temporary parking spaces for election use near 15 West Ste. Marie Street for up to six weeks before an election; the ordinance passed 6-0.
On Jan. 6 the Perryville Board of Aldermen approved Bill No. 6615 on second reading, adopting Ordinance No. 6828 to amend the municipal code governing reserved parking. The ordinance permits the County Election Authority, without further city action, to temporarily designate up to six parking spaces in specified downtown locations for election use for up to six weeks prior to and on the day of a scheduled election.
The ordinance describes four eligible block faces (South side of West Ste. Marie Street between Jackson and Main; West side of Main between West Ste. Marie and West St. Joseph; North side of West St. Joseph between North Jackson and Main; East side of North Jackson between West St. Joseph and West Ste. Marie) and requires spaces be clearly marked and limited to 30-minute use for election-related purposes (voting at 15 West Ste. Marie Street or seeking services from the County Clerk’s office). The move is aimed at ensuring parking availability for voters during elections.
Alderman Seth Amschler moved the bill on second reading and Alderman Deanna Kline seconded. Roll call showed six ayes and no nays; Mayor Larry Riney declared the bill passed and it became Ordinance No. 6828.
