Minong pursues state culvert grant for St. Croix Trail after state rating

Trustee Christine Holland reported that the state ranked culverts on a 1–10 scale and that the town had three culverts on the list. Two were rated 5 and are not eligible at this time; the St. Croix Trail culvert received a rating of 3. Holland said applications are due by May 1, will be reviewed in late May or early June, and municipalities should learn grant results in July.
Road Superintendent T Conaway said he has not yet received a contractor quote to repair or replace the culvert; the board noted that if the town receives a grant the work would follow public bidding requirements so the town would need cost estimates to set up a bid process.
Resident and commenter Mike Hurtgen provided navigability standards for bridges and culverts and spoke specifically about the flowage culvert. The board and staff discussed monitoring other culverts rated above a 3 for future attention.
The town will complete and submit the application by the May 1 deadline; no funding award or construction contract has yet been authorized.
