Marinette council awards road, sidewalk and maintenance contracts, including $1.07M Eggener & Wells Street project
Summary
At its March 3 meeting the council approved multiple public-works bids including a $1,070,377.84 low bid for Eggener & Wells Street, a $38,065 sidewalk contract for Main Street, a $100,931.50 chip-seal contract, and smaller material bids; the council also approved two sidewalk additions to the Elizabeth Avenue reconstruction project by a 6–3 vote.
The Marinette Common Council approved a slate of public-works contracts and bid awards on March 3, 2026, including the low bid from Barley Trucking & Excavating of $1,070,377.84 for Eggener Street & Wells Street (Project No. 2026-200) and a $38,065 low bid from Duame Sand & Gravel Inc. for the Main Street walkway (Project No. 2026-900). Motions to award these contracts carried by recorded votes as noted in the minutes.
Council also authorized the sole bid of $138,361.00 from Northeast Asphalt, Inc. for asphalt season requirements, awarded Havelka Construction sole bids for 3/4" crushed limestone/gravel ($1,280.00) and topsoil ($2,150.00), and accepted a sole bid from Fahrner Asphalt Sealers for chip seal work ($100,931.50, including the seal coat & spray patch alternate). The council asked Public Works Director/City Engineer Miller to coordinate a straight concrete sidewalk option with the Main Street contractor where applicable.
During discussion of the Elizabeth Avenue reconstruction project, Alderperson Doug Oitzinger proposed adding sidewalks; after an amended motion failed, a final motion to approve two sidewalk options (north-side to driveway, cost $11,050; south-side to second driveway, cost $12,915) passed 6–3. The minutes record unanimous approval (9–0) for several bid items and a split vote for the sidewalk additions.
Council also approved Amendment #2 to Ayres Associates’ professional services agreement for the Menominee River Trail and authorized placement of trail amenities (one bench, one trash receptacle, one recycling receptor) at designated trailheads. The minutes record that future Board of Public Works discussion will consider additional amenities.
