Pilot Grove aldermen approve temporary liquor permits, gravel fee increase and routine financial actions

The Pilot Grove Board of Aldermen on July 7 approved two temporary intoxicating liquor licenses and associated street closures for community events, accepted financial reports and authorized a certificate-of-deposit renewal, and raised the city's charge for gravel, rock, sand and dirt.
Chelsey Vollrath, representing the St. Joseph Picnic Committee, requested a temporary intoxicating liquor license and permission to close Harris Street for the St. Joseph Picnic scheduled Aug. 23, 2025; the council approved the request on a 4-0 vote (motion by Bradley Vollmer; second by Kathy Waller). Sarah Sawford of Deon's Bar & Grill sought permission to block Main Street on Sept. 21, 2025, from noon until bar closing and a temporary liquor license to serve within a fenced area; the council granted that request on a 4-0 vote (motion by Bob Kraus; second by Donna Bader).
The council also accepted its June 2025 financial reports and authorized renewal of a certificate of deposit at Midwest Regional Bank; both actions passed unanimously. Separately, the council approved increasing the charge for gravel/rock/sand/dirt from $25 per scoop to $35 per scoop (motion by Kathy Waller; second by Bradley Vollmer; vote 4-0).
No closed session was held. The council adjourned after scheduling its next regular meeting for Monday, Aug. 11, 2025.
