Union City council adopts ordinance amendments, approves tax exoneration and other routine measures

Union City Borough Council on Sept. 16 approved a package of ordinance and administrative actions, voting unanimously on each measure.

Council approved advertised amendments to Parking Ordinance 1137 to restrict unlawful and disabled vehicles, update schedules I, II and IV, and make technical adjustments to parking restrictions. Council also approved amendments to Zoning Ordinance 1118 to add definitions and regulations for 'redemption games' (games of skill) and to allow accessory-structure use on adjoining lots. Councilor Steadman moved to approve the parking-ordinance amendments; Councilor Osborn seconded. Councilor Kerns moved to approve the zoning amendment; Councilor Steadman seconded. Both motions passed unanimously.

The council approved a resolution exonerating $5,563.49 in taxes for 121 East High; the Land Bank purchased the property. Councilor Kerns moved to approve the exoneration, seconded by Councilor Steadman, and the motion carried unanimously.

Council voted to advertise a proposed amendment to the Tenant Registration ordinance to allow the borough to charge repeat violators more than once per year when they fail to provide required information; Councilor Steadman moved and Councilor Osborn seconded the motion to advertise the amendment. Council also set borough trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Council members noted these were routine, mostly procedural items and no further public hearings or specific implementation timelines were provided during the meeting.
