Greensville summer food program delivers more than 46,000 meals; district expands direct-ship service

School nutrition staff told the board their USDA Summer Food Service operated at three school sites this summer and added a direct-ship meal-kit program to reach eligible students in rural areas.
Mirena Garner said the program served a total of 7,132 breakfasts and lunches combined at Greensville Elementary, Wyatt and the high school. The division partnered with Dinwiddie County Public SchoolsNutrition Department and a vendor to provide shelf-stable meal kits delivered to studentshomes in approved rural areas. Each box contained 10 breakfasts, 10 lunches, milk, juice and four microwavable meals.
Staff reported delivery of 2,323 boxes to 1,040 addresses, which they calculated as 46,460 meals. One additional shipment was scheduled for the week and families could sign up through tonight at 10:00 p.m., staff said. The presenter noted the program removes transportation barriers and expands access for eligible children.
Board members thanked staff; superintendent and others acknowledged the volume of meals distributed and celebrated community partners who supported the effort.
