Pilot Grove aldermen approve Main Street closure, accept reports and routine motions

The Pilot Grove Board of Aldermen on Oct. 6 approved a temporary closure of Main Street for an Oct. 11 event and completed a slate of routine actions including acceptance of financial and departmental reports, approval of a building permit and authorization to hire a contractor to demolish a storage building.
Sarah Sawford petitioned the board to close Main Street from 2:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 11, 2025; the board approved the closure on a 4-0 vote, with Council Member Donna Bader making the motion and Council Member Kathy Waller seconding. The board also accepted the minutes of the Sept. 8 regular meeting, minutes from the Aug. 11 tax hearing and the Aug. 11 sewer rate hearing, and the city’s September financial reports, each by recorded 4-0 votes.
Council members approved the Semi-Annual Report (April–September 2025) and the Police Report for September 2025, again by unanimous recorded votes. In new business, the board approved a building permit for a 24-foot by 30-foot garage at an address recorded in the minutes as “127 3" St.” and approved replacing the transmission on the city’s Truck 1; both motions passed 4-0. The board also approved hiring D. Kammerich to demolish the remainder of the storage building at 215 Main St. and approved donating playground equipment to the sole remaining interested party, with the condition the equipment be taken “as is” and picked up by a deadline recorded in the minutes as "1% of December, 2025" (the minutes’ date notation is unclear).
Council also approved a temporary delegation of purchasing authority: members voted 4-0 to grant Mayor Pro Tem Bob Kraus the authority to approve unforeseen purchases if Mayor Dennis Knipp is absent for health appointments. The minutes record that a closed meeting was not held and list the board’s next regular meeting for Monday, Nov. 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m.
