Commission approves valet-lane relocations and a new restaurant valet on Houston Street

The Traffic and Parking Commission approved several downtown curb-use changes requested by private operators and NDOT staff.
Endac representative Emmanuel Matias described a proposal to swap three valet spaces from Peabody Street to the 3rd Avenue frontage of the Printing House Hotel and to add three additional valet spaces there, creating six valet spaces in front of the hotel while converting the Peabody cutout to paid parking. Commissioners approved the relocation (6.2.0.1 and 6.2.0.2) and added a condition that the hours of operation for the Printing House frontage valet remain 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Matias also presented a new valet cutout on Houston Street to serve multiple businesses (two restaurants and a whiskey bar) with about five spaces and operating hours of 4 p.m. to midnight. NDOT said it had conducted audits of the operator’s prior performance and would continue monitoring this location; the department said it would flag operational problems and could recommend revocation if violations occurred.
Commissioners probed circulation, loading-zone placement, pricing and compatibility with Connect Downtown mobility plans. NDOT staff responded that the valet permits are annual and that, if broader street-design projects materialize, the department could decline renewal during future permit cycles; the hotel and the operator were aware that future downtown mobility designs could require changes.
The commission approved both the Printing House Hotel relocation and the Houston Street valet by voice vote. NDOT and enforcement staff said they will monitor staging, enforce violations (including improper staging outside the valet zone) and perform follow-up audits, and that staff will report significant operational problems to the commission for consideration of revocation.
Next steps: NDOT will implement the swaps and valet markings, continue audits through October, and report any operational issues to the commission for potential enforcement or revocation.
