South Hill reports $42.3 million in total funds; council accepts departmental reports

The Town of South Hill presented its January 2026 financial summary and accepted a slate of departmental reports at the Feb. 9 council meeting.
Director of Finance and Administration Dahlis Morrow reported petty cash of $700, checking account balances of $10,590,239.47, investments totaling $29,141,432.74, and restricted/committed funds of $2,598,803.24, for a total of $42,331,275.45 in all funds. The consent agenda, which included approval of the Jan. 12 meeting minutes and the monthly financial report, was approved unanimously.
Chief of Police Ryan Durham submitted the police report showing 137 activity incidents, 30 reportable criminal offenses, 787 calls for service and $15,370 in property recovered. Municipal Services and Parks reports included updates on winter weather operations, water leaks, the transition to a new trash and recycling provider, Parker Park maintenance and Town Hall renovation progress. Code Compliance reported 35 inspections completed, 21 permits issued, $13,181.97 in fees collected, and a report on about 45 dilapidated properties. The town also recorded several new business licenses in January 2026, including The Backyard Brews & Bites and El Samalayuca Mexican.
Councilor Jenifer Freeman-Hite moved and Councilor Delores Luster seconded a motion to accept the reports as presented; the motion carried unanimously.
