Town Manager Keli Reekes presented council with options for allowing golf carts and LSVs, outlining safety requirements such as headlights and brake lights, potential administrative and law enforcement impacts, and the need for appropriate signage in permitted areas. Mayor Mike Moody asked council members to consult constituents about community sentiment before the hearing.
Vice Mayor Gavin Honeycutt moved to schedule the hearing; Councilor Delores Luster seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. No ordinance was adopted at the Feb. 9 meeting; council is seeking public input before any formal regulatory action.
If the town moves forward after public comment, possible implementation steps discussed include drafting an ordinance with equipment and operational standards, establishing permitted zones, and coordinating enforcement procedures with the Police Department.
The hearing will provide a formal opportunity for residents to address safety concerns, hours or zones of operation, and other community impacts. The town has not yet published draft ordinance language or a proposed effective date.
