The City Council unanimously approved a one-year renewal with UnitedHealthcare for the City of Ladue's employee medical plan, effective July 1, 2026, after staff negotiations with the city's broker.
Director of Finance Nicholas Wigglesworth told the Council that the current plan had a built-in 12.9% increase cap. Cigna submitted an alternate proposal with an approximate 11% increase plus a $90,000 administrative credit, but after negotiation UnitedHealthcare reduced its renewal increase to 7.5%. Wigglesworth said the final renewal was "well under budget" and that no changes were proposed to ancillary coverage such as vision and dental.
Council Member Harold Burroughs moved to approve the one-year renewal; the motion passed unanimously on second by Council Member John Howell.
The city will implement the renewal July 1, 2026, and staff will continue to monitor plan performance and costs.
