Resident urges Ladue council to reject proposed PDD for multi-family housing; mayor says process is just starting

Jamie Marx of 1220 Kortwright Avenue addressed the council during public comment and asked the Council to reconsider a newly filed Planned Development District (PDD) application. Marx expressed concern that the proposed development would change the character of the surrounding neighborhood and highlighted potential traffic impacts. He acknowledged potential reasons some support the proposal, such as providing downsizing housing and increasing tax revenue, but said those considerations did not overcome his concerns.
Mayor Nancy Spewak replied that the application had just been filed and that the PDD would follow the city's planning and zoning review process, including peer review of traffic and floodplain issues, stormwater and architecture. She encouraged Marx to sign up for notices so he could follow subsequent meetings and said the City would evaluate the proposal through the normal public-review process.
No council action on the PDD occurred at the May 18 meeting; the mayor and staff emphasized the matter is at an initial stage and will receive further review and public notice through the planning process.
