The Public Safety Committee unanimously moved several special-event permits to the Common Council, including a two-day Summer Series at Twining Park, a Greene County Latino Health Fair scheduled for June 2 at Blackhawk Technical College, and a street-closure request for a Cactus & Company fundraiser for Bartels.
Staff described the Summer Series as a two-day, nonconsecutive event with a volleyball tournament on June 20 (9 a.m.–3 p.m.) and a pickleball event on July 14 (7 p.m.–9 p.m.). The committee agreed to forward the item after a motion and second.
On the Latino Health Fair, staff told the committee the event would run June 2 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and noted the expected presence of vendor trucks and parking impacts; a committee member pointed out that the version of the permit in the meeting materials was a blank, fillable form with no date/time entries. Staff said they would print a paper copy or email the complete application to members and Council before the Council meeting. Given the event’s imminent date, the committee moved the item to Council so it could be acted on at the next Council meeting.
Administrator Windy described the Cactus & Company fundraiser request to extend the restaurant’s premise into its sidewalk cafe and to close the outer (south-side) lane of the square — with traffic allowed to flow in the inner lane — for a fundraising event for Bartels following a recent fire. Staff recommended the street closure for public-safety reasons and the committee voted to forward the request to Council.
As a separate business item, a committee member said Chief Rufe has agreed to brief the committee on the recent square fire after the investigation concludes; members said the briefing would be useful once investigators complete their work.
All items were forwarded to the Common Council for final consideration; staff will provide the Council packet with the completed application for the Latino Health Fair.
