Monroe Board of Review elects Tom Miller chair, Richard Jones vice chair; delays hearing for absent objector

The City of Monroe Board of Review elected Tom Miller as its 2026 chairperson and Richard Jones as vice chair during a May 28 meeting at Monroe City Hall.

At the outset of the meeting, a committee member nominated "Mayor Miller" for chair and the board closed nominations by voice vote; several members then voiced support. "Mayor Miller is our 2026 chairperson," said Nikolai Wall, who identified himself earlier in the meeting as a board member.

The board then opened nominations for vice chair. The record shows an initial nomination name prompted some confusion during the exchange; the board moved forward with and approved a nomination for Richard Jones, who was addressed in the record as "director." Montgomery did not appear at the 10:00 a.m. start of the session. After discussion the board voted to recess until the appellant appeared or until 11:59 a.m.; the clerk stated the assessor recommended keeping the meeting open until that time and not calling the case if the appellant failed to appear. When the board reconvened at noon, Montgomery remained absent and the board did not call the case. The clerk said the assessments would be finalized after the meeting.

A final motion to adjourn was approved by voice vote, and the board adjourned its 2026 session.
