NCDOT planner asks council to approve county population and employment base data for regional transportation plan

A representative of the NCDOT transportation planning division asked the Allegheny County Council to approve socioeconomic base data and projections used in the county's Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).
The presenter (NCDOT transportation planner, S12) said the CTP steering committee adopted a 2022 base-year population of 11,003 and used a 0.5% annual growth rate to project a 2050 population of 11,195. For employment, the presenter reported approximately 4,702 jobs in 2022 and said the committee used DataAxle data in place of InfoUSA for job estimates, noting DataAxle is used in the statewide model.
"The CTP steering committee reached consensus on a 2022 base year population of 11,003 and a reasonable assumption growth rate of 0.5% was used to calculate a total projected future year population in 2050 of 11,195," the presenter said.
Council members asked clarifying questions about what is counted as employment; the presenter described employment as the number of jobs in the county. The planner requested council approval of the population and employment data included in the memo.
The council's action on this request was recorded on the agenda for referral/approval; staff indicated the item would be handled per committee recommendation.
