Town staff: Boil notice downgraded to advisory; wastewater plant taking waste for training

A town staff member told the Spruce Pine Town Council that officials downgraded a mandatory boil notice for part of the Beaver Creek area to a boil advisory and that wastewater operations are progressing.

The staff member said crews have nearly finished tying in distribution lines on the section of Beaver Creek from Mesa Community Apartments toward 19 and that, after contacting state officials, the town "downgraded the boil notice today to a boil advisory." The staff member said the town's storage tanks are full and chlorine levels are acceptable, and that the town sent an automated call to notify residents.

On wastewater, the staff member said the Mitchell High School portable wastewater treatment plant "accepted waste today from the surrounding area" to allow contractors to train local personnel and to handle any process peaks while contractors are present. The staff member added that Alta Pass 1 is scheduled for testing this week and will then be ready to accept flows back into the system.

The staff member described continuing work on collection lines, concrete repairs and pump stations as ongoing and "looking really really positive." No formal vote or ordinance was recorded on these operational updates during the portion of the meeting in the transcript.

The council was told the town will record written easements for access where needed before some repairs proceed and that staff have authority to sign and record easements once returned (see related action). The town did not identify which state office was contacted about the boil notice in the transcript.
