Tourism board readies events and council appoints Abby Humes; Heritage Committee names Hall of Fame inductees

Don McGee, chairman of the Afton Tourism Board, told the council the board is preparing for the town’s Easter Egg Hunt and would like to make the Fairgrounds the permanent location for that event. The tourism board has been asked to provide a representative to the Lincoln County Travel and Tourism Board and is working to define a new marketing and event‑coordination position.
Following the recommendation from the Tourism Board, the council appointed Abby Humes to the Tourism Board; Council Member Will Wilkes moved the appointment, Council Member Dirk Hillyard seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Larnell Cleverley, chairman of the Afton Heritage Committee, said the committee received three new nominations for the Heritage Hall of Fame, met last month and selected two individuals for induction. The committee plans an induction ceremony on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Civic Center and will work with inductees’ families on preparations.
No formal motions beyond the board appointment were recorded for the tourism and heritage updates.
