Afton planning board advances road master plan; council approves storage subdivision

Town Administrator Violet Sanderson reported for the Planning and Zoning Board that a road master plan is in progress and that public input from a Sept. 30 meeting supports releasing the draft for broader public feedback.
On land use matters, Sanderson presented a Simple Subdivision proposal to divide one tract to create Lots 1 and 2 of the Afton Storage Subdivision on the east side of Highway 89. Planning and Zoning recommended approval and the council authorized the mayor to sign the final plat once it receives documentation of intended disposition of water rights and proof from the state board of control or engineer's office that water‑rights detachment has been accepted.
Separately, Amber Hyde, chair of the Afton Main Street Alliance, reported that the Meat‑Malt‑Music Festival drew positive comments, increased out‑of‑town visitors and boosted participating business sales.
Mayor Jensen also announced that a resident's letter requesting an ordinance against obscenity would be added to the Oct. 22 work session for council consideration.
