The Portageville Board of Aldermen voted on multiple purchases, contracts and administrative items at its Feb. 2, 2026 meeting.
Purchases and contracts approved: - Massey Field lighting: Approved purchase of LED lighting from Superior Lighting at $25,609.95; Park Board to reimburse $1,376.36 from insurance and split any additional labor/installation costs. Motion by Alderman McCrate; second by Alderman Smith. - Backhoe: Approved purchase of a 2016 John Deere 310SL loader backhoe from Dynamic Machinery for $44,000, to be paid from the Health Fund. Motion by Alderman McCrate; second by Alderman Faulk. - Water Department compressor: Approved purchase of an 80-gallon compressor from Ferguson Home for $3,499.99. Motion by Alderman Faulk; second by Alderman Smith. - Overhead door maintenance: Approved a 12-month service agreement with Paragould Overhead Door at $150 per month covering 12 doors and two preventative services per year. Motion by Alderman McCrate; second by Alderman Smith. - Bobcat tires: Approved purchase of four foam-filled tires from seller RemeisterUSA (Ebay) for $2,550. Motion by Alderman Faulk; second by Alderman McCrate.
Appointments and administrative actions: - Code enforcement: Alderman Faulk moved and Alderman McCrate seconded reappointment of Joseph Denton to the Code Enforcement position effective immediately; motion carried unanimously. - Beautification Committee: Alderman Smith moved to restructure the Beautification Committee to pursue grants and Main Street revitalization; motion carried. - Rezoning: Planning & Zoning recommended rezoning parcel at 1305 Highway 61 North from I-1 to R-2 following a public hearing with no objections; the board voted to draft an ordinance to implement the rezoning. Motion by Alderman McCrate; second by Alderman Faulk. - MRWA conference: Water Superintendent Jimmy Wyman was approved to attend the Missouri Rural Water Association annual conference in Branson; registration will be paid with vouchers; travel expenses approved by the board.
Items tabled for March 2026 pending additional information: year-round community dumpster at the street shed (Republic Services pricing), SRO camera request (Mayor to meet with Officer Colbert and School Superintendent Barry Branscum), snowplow attachment quotes and listing the 2002 GMC C8500 on GovDeals, and solar security camera at the burn pile (requested by Alderman Simmons).
Financials and routine business: - The board approved Municipal Court Judge Chris Stinnett’s report and City Collector Carol Bowden and Treasurer Rachel Wrather’s January financial reports. Reports indicated $337,709.35 turned over to the city from collections and detailed receipts from the collector and clerk; combined deposits including court, collector, clerk and interest were listed as $951,448.23 in the minutes. - A list of January bills was reviewed and approved.
Personnel: The board adjourned to executive session under Section 610.021.1 RSMo to discuss personnel and returned to open session before adjourning at 6:56 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2026.
