Chief of Police Rodney Ivie told the Board the department would implement pay raises for officers effective May 1, 2026 and that he was increasing patrols on West 12th Street in response to resident complaints about speeding.
Ivie asked the council to promote Officer Joseph Denton to sergeant effective immediately; the council approved the promotion by unanimous vote. Ivie also requested multiple equipment purchases: ticket books (about $850), warning books (about $850), five trauma kits to be assembled by New Madrid County Ambulance District (approximately $300 each), and AED machines (about $1,500) to place at City Hall and the Police Department. The council approved the purchases unanimously.
Five Axon body-camera mounts (approximately $70 each) were purchased after Alderman Faulk approved the purchase because the total fell under the council’s verbal approval threshold (less than $500). An email ratification and a formal motion later in the meeting approved a $3,300 engine assembly for the department’s Dodge Charger. Ivie also noted future considerations including replacing an ID printer and a service proposal for the Police Department’s Generac generator.
