The Prairie Home Board of Aldermen on Jan. 15 approved a series of routine personnel and financial items, including hiring a drinking water operator and accepting a small donation for police building lighting.
Alderman David Borghardt moved to hire A.I. Wirts as the city’s drinking water operator with a starting salary of $1,000 per month; Alderman Ray Weber seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also agreed to extend the lagoon land lease with Adam Lohse to allow him to bale hay on lagoon property.
City Clerk Mary Sue Fontana reported a $100 donation to the city. Alderman Borghardt moved to use the funds to purchase lighting for the front of the police building to supplement street lighting installed last fall; Alderman Weber seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board voted to reimburse City Attorney Kim Force $205 for one-half of her annual attorney license fee, as had been done in 2025. Fontana presented the monthly financial report, which the board accepted following a motion by Mr. Borghardt and second by Mr. Weber.
Minutes from the Nov. 20, 2025 regular meeting and the Dec. 9, 2025 special closed meeting were approved in separate motions that passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
What’s next: several items discussed — including a draft mobile‑home ordinance, community garden maintenance and water‑quality follow‑up — remain under discussion and will return to the board as needed.
