Access For All — Mahwah outlines busy winter events calendar; secretary to step down

Kathryn Lamanna told members she will step down as secretary on Dec. 31, 2024, though she will remain a voting member of the commission.
Denise Shabet-CERT presented the Treasurer’s report and shared a preliminary 2025 budget; she said she placed several Bingo supplies on layaway at Walgreens to be picked up in January and that she obtained a temporary 2024 license for Mahwah Pizza and Pasta. The minutes record a donation that funded a member-family’s contribution to a "Wicked" movie outing and a separate donation for a line-dancing event.
The commission recapped recent activities including an Oct. 2 Fire Safety and Ice Factory truck event with MFD/EMS (a drone flew above the event), the Oct. 16 Creepy Hollow event, and the Oct. 25 Halloween Bingo, which members described as one of their biggest events. Upcoming events listed in the minutes include a Nov. 17 Turkey Bowl at Oakland Lanes; a Nov. 20 Mahwah High School play "Get Smart" (4 p.m., free for AFA members); a Nov. 30 "Wicked" movie at the Township Theater (Washington Township); Dec. 5 Commons Holiday Party; Dec. 7 Ramsey 125th Holiday Parade (AFA-RIFE marching); Dec. 8 Mahwah Winter Fest and parade (AFA marching); Dec. 13 Ugly Holiday Sweater party with DJ and Santa; Dec. 28 Mufasa/Lion King movie; and Jan. 10, 2025, Zumba with Shay and DJ Scott.
The minutes also record a range of administrative notes: a copy of a new ordinance remained pending, John Ryan said he would email bowling no-shows that they would be charged, a new backdrop had been ordered, and committee members agreed to move forward with vendor paperwork for the Bergen County Horse Rescue spring event. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.; the next in-person meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Mahwah Senior Center.
