Anthony Meen, who identified himself as living at 75 Dogwood Trail, told council that he had been told by a town attorney contact that Police Chief Cole "is stating that false sworn statements and filing false reports do not violate law here in Southern Shores" and that he had reported instances of false information being provided to the planning board and police. Meen said he was placing the allegation on the public record and asked the council and staff to address the legal issues.
Council members did not announce any immediate investigation or action during the meeting. Town staff who spoke earlier in the meeting provided public‑safety and operational reports but did not directly respond to the allegations during the comment period. Anthony Meen said he wanted the issue documented and hoped the town attorney and staff would follow up.
The council proceeded to the next agenda items. The meeting record therefore contains the allegation stated on the public record; the council did not take a formal vote or issue a response at that meeting.
