The Grottoes Town Council approved a planned-unit B-2 commercial development on Dogwood Avenue on June 8 after a brief presentation and staff comments.
Councilman Cole introduced the item and asked staff for comment. Town staff member Mr. Bridal said the site is zoned B-2 and that the project as proposed is a first step: "In B2, it's planned unit development. So it is required to go to the planning commission and town council for approval... it's basically constructing the shell and then working around what type of business is going in there." Staff added that while they would have liked more specificity, the applicant has built similar structures in town and the design is consistent with prior projects.
Councilman Cole moved to approve the B-2 development on Dogwood Avenue; the motion was seconded and the council voted to carry the motion. Staff noted the next steps include surveying, site specifics and the planning commission review required by the zoning process.
The council did not record ordinance numbers on the record at the meeting; planning and permitting details will be handled by staff and the planning commission as the project moves forward.
