At the July 8 Myersville Town Council meeting, residents pressed town officials about two neighborhood safety issues: overgrown grass at a storm pond and electric scooters operating on Main Street.
Mike McMillen, a town resident, said the grass around a storm pond grows "knee high," allowing children to re-enter the area to play. Mayor Mark Hinkle acknowledged the complaint and said the town has changed mowing contractors; the current mowing schedule is once a month. Town Manager Kristin Aleshire told the council the pond in question was not constructed to function like infiltration ponds elsewhere in town and that heavy recent rainfall and a contractor's late start contributed to the overgrowth. Council members said staff will re-examine the mowing schedule and contractor timing.
Joann Horine, a Harp Place resident, raised concerns about electric scooters traveling up and down Main Street and said a child could be injured. Deputy Paul Graves said he had spoken with some families and planned to set up a meeting with children who use the scooters to review rules and safety expectations.
Those items were recorded as public presentations; the council did not adopt an ordinance or take an immediate enforcement action on either issue during the meeting. Mayor Hinkle and town staff said they would follow up with operational changes and outreach. The council later approved routine meeting business and closed with an executive session on a personnel matter.
