Village Center building-size proposal sent back to Planning Commission after resident objections

Several residents raised concerns during public comment, urging the council to pause the ordinance and return it to the Planning Commission for clearer justification and comparative data.
Resident Martha Dogget compared the proposed maximum to other buildings in town and asked the council to reconsider the scale. James Derse and Martin McCarrick also urged the council to seek more explanation and documentation before adopting a numerical cap. Planner Boldyga explained the Planning Commission’s reasoning several times and agreed to take further questions back to that body for a clearer record of its methodology.
After the discussion, Councilmember Flynn withdrew his motion to adopt Ordinance 2025-11 and made a new motion to refer the matter back to the Planning Commission for clarification of how the 12,000-square-foot figure was derived. Councilmember Wayne Creadick Jr. seconded the referral motion; the council approved it unanimously.
What happens next: The Planning Commission is expected to revisit its supporting analysis and present its rationale to council at a future meeting; no change to the town code occurred at the Aug. 12 meeting.
